In the past African societies had "moots" in which people could talk endlessly until they were utterly, totally, done. They often went on for days, sometimes weeks.

It think it might be interesting to get Mr Ruston in front of a camera for 20+ consecutive days. Answering a prepared list of questions.

If well thought out, and with demos of what he is talking about, it might work to fill the documentation gap.

Well, its the thought that counts.

Ha! Interesting idea. Perhaps we should try a session like that during July's meetup?

Best wishes

Hi Josiah,

Well though!. 20+ consecutive day has the risk of killing the guru. That is why they are called hangouts and last for shorter periods.

Ciao Birthe

It sorts out the tacky gurus from the rest.

I sort of suspect Mr Ruston's not so articulated implicit knowledge would well weather 20 days of exposition.

i don't think it would be so difficult with (1) decent questions (2) good cinematography.

This reminds me of Buckminster Fuller's attempt in 1975 to articulate "Everything I know" in a lecture series lasting 42 hours.

"During the last two weeks of January 1975 Buckminster Fuller gave an extraordinary series of lectures concerning his entire life's work. These thinking out loud lectures span 42 hours and examine in depth all of Fuller's major inventions and discoveries from the 1927 Dymaxion house, car and bathroom, through the Wichita House, geodesic domes, and tensegrity structures, as well as the contents of Synergetics. Autobiographical in parts, Fuller recounts his own personal history in the context of the history of science and industrialization. The stories behind his Dymaxion car, geodesic domes, World Game and integration of science and humanism are lucidly communicated with continuous reference to his synergetic geometry. Permeating the entire series is his unique comprehensive design approach to solving the problems of the world. Some of the topics Fuller covered in this wide ranging discourse include: architecture, design, philosophy, education, mathematics, geometry, cartography, economics, history, structure, industry, housing and engineering."

Mark

that is pretty good given the terrible seat. In my observation Mr Ruston has a fairly pliable body. Did you notice on hanghouts that his KNEES are often on screen at the start?

Hi Mark,

I thought of exactly the same thing :) Have you ever watched them? They are very good.

It would be great to organise the ideas contained in them with Tiddlywiki, don't you think ;)

Regards,
Richard
