Beyond the BLTs functionality demonstrated in Dave G's workflow video -interesting enough in its own right- i am most excited by the idea of indexing & searching external wikis as shown in the 2nd half of vid.

So following the link in that video, i downloaded Dave's template, read the Readme file on the Searchwikis plugin that came in the template, followed the link to Mohammad's demo page and tutorial, followed those instructions to index the tiddlywiki.com site and import the index to my own wiki, and... It doesn't work as expected.

What i get when i use that widget to "Search external wikis through index tiddlers" for the name of a tiddler that i know exists on the external wiki is: just a blind link to the default https://tiddlywiki.com view.  I have also tried this on a wiki of my own, and the result is similar.

Now: i don't know if this is what's supposed to happen, because the way Dave's video is framed, i can't see the URL bar of his browser... But the result i was expecting is a list of tiddlers from the "foreign" wiki that match my search term, displayed in my own wiki.

Am i misunderstanding something important here?

Hi Walt,
I am just writing for the part related to Searchwiki vanilla not the customized version of David! (He will explain that part)

See the demo/example tab. It demonstrates searching https://tiddlywiki.com/ means it works fine!

I may recommend to get the plugin in an empty wiki and follow the instruction in https://kookma.github.io/TW-Searchwikis/#Searchwikis%20Tutorial

Best wishes
Mohammad

Thanks for the quick response, Mohammed -which instructions i have followed to the letter, and i'm still getting the same result, in a fresh wiki (DL from tiddlywiki.com), with Searchwikis plugin installed, the "index and export" tiddler installed on the external wiki, index created and exported to my new host wiki, index shows up as it should...

BUT then when i run "Advanced search" of external wikis on a term corresponding to tiddler in the external wiki -and i do have the pick-list of indexed wikis to click which i want to search, b/t/w- it still sends me via blind link to the external wiki.  Obviously i'm doing something wrong; just can't think of what it might be.

One thing that strikes me curious is: that index tiddler-  $:/stw/index/Tiddlywiki Dotcom in this case, which is tagged $:/tags/SearchWikis , and has the additional fields for title, url and last_update -has no content in its text body.  If this is supposed to serve as an index, should it not hold key fields (title, subtitle, tags, etc.) for the external wiki it references?

In any case: if anyone can posit a plausible theory of cause about what i've got wrong here, i'd sure appreciate it!

Walt,
Could you import the attached index and check to see how it works!

What I did
1. download empty.html from https://tiddlywiki.com/ (I call this Test Wiki)
3. Open $:/AdvancesSearch from sidebar
4. Click on External wikis tab
5. click on external wikis link below searchbox it opens this tiddler (https://kookma.github.io/TW-Searchwikis/#Searchwikis%20Index%20Summary) of course on my Test Wiki
7. Open and index (fill the fields as you like, URL is the most important and shall be correct here it is  https://tiddlywiki.com/)
8. Drag and drop the created index to my Test Wiki

It works!

Best wishes
Mohammad

Ahh... NOW she's working -thanks to your patient support, Mohammed.
Problem was not that i skipped any of your prescribed steps, but rather that i had inserted a save step -or few, actually:
  1. after installing the plugin to my Test Wiki,
  2. after installing the "index and export" script on Tiddlywiki.com -which of course necessitated saving that wiki to my localhost (herein lies the problem, i suspect)- and then
  3. after dragging the exported index into my Test Wiki.
Obviously i'm still not clear as to what sort of changes must be saved in order to become operational... But, can't say i care at this point: am too busy exploiting the potential of this wonderful plugin!
(with joy, and gratitude... /walt)

I think in my video I might have accidentally had the Search external wikis tiddler visible in every file, but that is misleading.

The search external wikis tiddler goes in the central index file.

The Index and Export tiddler goes in all the external files you want indexed in the index. You add the info in that tiddler, and export to the central index file. Do that for each file, and in the central index file you can then use the Search external wikis tiddler to filter search for the tiddlers in the external files.
