I was looking for a nice solution to take my notes off the cloud.  I was first impressed on how easy it is to store my notes encrypted with a combination of Tiddlywiki, encfs and Dropbox.  Then I started realizing how much more advanced Tiddlywiki was to Google Notes.  I love a lot of the concepts I've seen already.

The problem is most of the tutorials and introductions talk about concepts that seem directed to people who are already familiar with maintaining wiki's.  I understand how to organize the data but I do not know any of the commands.  I'm looking for a nice accelerated youtube video that spends 10 to 15 minutes just quickly showcasing all the main commands like linking, tagging, working with images and file attachments, setting up reminders, to-do items, installing plugins, etc -- virtually just a quick expose of all the basic stuff without having to watch hours of video for one or two concepts.

I've seen a lot of tutorials and introductions on Tiddlywiki, but haven't found any nice quick how-to presentations.

Thanks!

Yeah, it took me all day to put together some very basic concepts I needed that I could have probably learned in about 10 minutes watching a tutorial.  I'm going to put one together a bit later today that covers: installation, Mozilla plugin, using TiddlyDesktop for easy daily backups, creating a Contents tab to group tags, creating and displaying todo items, general markup, and installation of TiddlyMap plugin.  I can probably do that within the timeframe with some left over to do a brief presentation of cloud encryption with EncFS.

Hi Francis,

great that you want to create a tutorial. IMO TiddlyWiki desperately needs more tutorial videos!

Just wanted to say, for the TiddlyMap installation I did a video here https://youtu.be/dmeIxuN0L5w. It shows how to install TiddlyWiki and add TiddlyMap. It also talks a bit about TiddlyFox and other concepts of TiddlyWiki.

In case you put the video on youtube, it probably would make sense if you put a bunch of keywords in the title to make sure also non-tw users discover the video when browsing tw-related topics. – but this is just a suggestion.

Thanks for the input.  I put up a temporary video of what I was shooting for.  It's pretty rough and unscripted, but it covers all the basic items I thought I'd like to know myself before starting with TiddlyWiki.

Maybe when I get some time in the next couple weeks, I'll put together something a bit tighter if I'm going to the right direction here.

Hi Francis

I've just skipped through your video at hyperspeed, and it looks really terrific, well done. It looks like you've put a lot of work into it. I'll enjoy watching it properly later,

Many thanks,

Jeremy.

Hi Francis,

That video is highly informative and covers many aspects of TiddlyWiki! Very nice!

As for TiddlyMap, I am sorry you ran into the "Permission denied to access property Type bug" :( It only happens on Firefox and it only happens when you open the url in a new tab for the first time … and sometimes it doesn't happen at all. The cure (which is also strange) is to simply press F5 to do a page reload, the error doesn't come up again. I have to say, this Firefox bug drives me crazy! I'll just suppress it in the next release.

So sorry for that and again, great video :)

Hi Francis,

I love that you are not talking too fast. Your voice is very good for stuff like this making it easy for us non-english speakers to understand. Thank you.

Thanks!

After I get a bit more time with Tiddlywiki under my belt, I'll do a revised version and take care of a few other items I missed.  After watching the video myself, it feels a bit more like a review than a tutorial.  My apologies to Jeremy, I'll post the new one to my personal account.

Your video was really useful, thanks. I had to laugh at your small blooper at 00:01:26, calling it "wikileak" rather than TiddlyWiki. Haha. I've learned a lot from your video, particularly about how to create the table of contents, which I've already implemented in my live and dev TW wikis. Next I'll be implementing the tasks and journal tiddlers you demonstrated, which I agree with you should be built into the core somehow. I'd like to encourage you to create more of these tutorial videos. Well done!
