Hi all,

From the documentation I understood I can use html directly to open a tiddler:

<a href={{MyLinkDestination}}>link</a>

I used this to create a link to an exsisting tiddler: Test. However, when I insert this into a new tiddler it doesnt seem to work.

<a href={{Test}}>link</a>

I tried both TW5 content type and html, but it just gives me this URL:

file:///C:/Users/Remi/SkyDrive/Projects/Tiddler/

Anyone any pointers on what I am doing wrong?
Much obliged and thanks,

Remi

So, okay the following seems to work:

<a href=#Test>Test</a>

Makes me wonder, is there any documentation/reference that is more up to date?

Thanks again,
Remi

Hi Remi

The HTML <a> element is used to create links to external resources. To link to a tiddler you'd use the <$link> widget. This example would link to the tiddler whose title is contained in the tiddler "MyLinkDestination":

<$link to={{MyLinkDestination}}>link</$link>

To link directly to the tiddler "MyLinkDestination":

<$link to="MyLinkDestination">link</$link>

Best wishes

Jeremy.

Hi Remi,

Some questions...
  1. Did you need to use the html <a> element for a link or did you try it because the documentation said you could / should?
  2. When you said "from the documentation", do you remember where it said that?
  3. Did the LinkWidget as suggested by Jeremy work out for you?
Best wishes,

Hi Tobias, thanks for your interest.

Some answers..

1. I used the element because the documentation said i could.
2. Yes: tiddlywiki.com, tiddler: HTML in WikiText.
3. I looked at the widget, but it came across a bit complicated for the functionality I wanted.

I work at a game developer, and wanted an easier, interactive way of describing every game entity (this especially helps programmers, which I am not).
I created png's of Flowchart state diagrams, after that I made html image maps of them. Programmers can now see a complete process in a Flowchart Diagram and get a detailed tiddler description of any entity when they click on them in the image map. So far tiddlyWiki satisfied my needs! :)

Hi Remi,

Thanks for detailing that...

1. I used the element because the documentation said i could.
2. Yes: tiddlywiki.com, tiddler: HTML in WikiText

It feels like the HTML in WikiText documentation could be enhanced by...
  • a) encouraging users to always use TiddlyWiki's wikitext markup first
    • => advising the use of html elements for situations where wikitext is either unsuitable or unmaintainable, e.g. a complex table
  • b) hinting at what html elements are mostly used for
    • => constructing output in widget templates and macros
    • => things TiddlyWiki has no dedicated markup for
 3. I looked at the widget, but it came across a bit complicated for the functionality I wanted.

I guess that goes hand in hand with a) above.

Best wishes,
