Hi all

I am using $:/plugins/wikilabs/link-to-tabs in my info and to do list TiddlyWiki. Awesome.

But it bugs me that I have to do three steps to edit the tiddlers referenced by the tabs: 1) Click on the tab 2) Click on the link image on the tab to open the tiddler. 3) click to edit the tiddler. Since what the user wants to do is edit the tiddler (since she can already view the tiddler in the tab), it makes sense that clicking on the link image would open the tiddler in edit mode. That would reduce from three steps to two.

Pleasepleaseplease Mario: modify the plugin, or create a modified version of the plugin with this feature, as this would enhance this plugin!

Ciao David

Mat developed a plugin that does exactly that. It obviously needs to be on your list! ;-)

Hi Josiah

I did try both of the plugins, Mat's and Mario's, and found that in Mat's plugin, the popup that appears when hovering disappears too quickly when I move the cursor up to click on the edit button. I like Mario's link image that stays put on the selected tab and does what it should.

Ciao David

Comparative plugin reviews are something that interests me. Your work makes it easier.

Gingerly, so nobody gets trashed. But comparison I think could bring plugins out of the dark.

Maybe, in time, we could develop a REVIEW section?

On Mat v. PMario, PMario wins on MINIMALISM IMO. Mat's innovation on editing function is great but not yet optimal.

Best wishes
Josiah

I did NOT mean YOU host it :-) Relax.

I just meant that, in principle, Comparative Review, so long as it doesn't trash people, is perhaps a good way forward to engage with the richness of plugins to bring out better what we have.

It was a thought. One I hope someones will think about.

Best wishes

Hey all,

Just for fun, I went ahead and modified Mario's plugin to go directly to edit mode. You have to edit:

$:/core/macros/tabs

And copy/paste the following content into it:

\define tabs(tabsList,default,state:"$:/state/tab",class,template)
<div class="tc-tab-set $class$">

<div class="tc-tab-buttons $class$">

<$list filter="$tabsList$" variable="currentTab">

<$set name="save-currentTiddler" value=<<currentTiddler>>>

<$tiddler tiddler=<<currentTab>>>

<$button set=<<qualify "$state$">> setTo=<<currentTab>> default="$default$" selectedClass="tc-tab-selected" tooltip={{!!tooltip}}>

<$transclude tiddler={{!!icon}}/>

<$tiddler tiddler=<<save-currentTiddler>>>

<$set name="tv-wikilinks" value="no">

<$transclude tiddler=<<currentTab>> field="caption">

<$macrocall $name="currentTab" $type="text/plain" $output="text/plain"/>

</$transclude>
                            </
$set>

</$tiddler>
                    </
$button>

<span class="wltc-link-to-tab tc-tiddlylink">

<$button>

{{$:/core/images/link}}

<$action-sendmessage $message="tm-edit-tiddler" $param=<<currentTiddler>> />
                        </
$button>

</span>
                </
$tiddler>

</$set>
        </
$list>

</div>
    <div class="tc-tab-divider $class$"/
>

<div class="tc-tab-content $class$">

<$list filter="$tabsList$" variable="currentTab">

<$reveal type="match" state=<<qualify "$state$">> text=<<currentTab>> default="$default$">

<$transclude tiddler="$template$" mode="block">

<$transclude tiddler=<<currentTab>> mode="block"/>

</$transclude>

            </
$reveal>

</$list>
        </
div>
</div>
\end

All it does it replace Mario's original <link> with a <button>. Currently, this comes at the cost of:

  • An ugly button - this can be styled!
  • When pressed for system/shadow tiddlers the warning pops up - this is desired!

Best,

Diego

Hi David,

The idea worked :) ... but I also found an issue in the core :/ ... A temporary fix is relatively straight forward, so it can be shipped with the plugin. ...

BUT .. I think the usability with system tabs and "auto-edit-mode" active is awful ...

I do see your usecase for "user tabs", where it can make sense to activate tab-links auto-edit-mode. ...

But once activated, I think, it is annoying if you want to just open "system tabs" eg: right sidebar. Since it opens the "You are about to overwrite a ShadowTiddler ... " dialog. ... And CTRL-Click, to avoid auto-edit just feels wrong.

So in contrast to the proposal at github I intend to implement the following behaviour:

Default: existing behaviour
 - auto-edit not active.
 - clicking a tab-link will open a tiddler in view mode
 - clicking a tab-link will open a shadow-tiddler in view mode
 - CTRL clicking any tab-link will open the tiddler, but won't scroll it into view

tab-link auto-edit active: new behaviour

 - clicking a tab-link will open a tiddler in edit mode
 - clicking a tab-link will open a shadow-tiddler in view mode
 - CTRL-clicking tab-links for shadow-tiddlers should force edit-mode. .... I'm not sure, if this is possible.

I'll publish a experimental bundle here, once I have a working version.

@all
What do you think? .....

Except: "How can this be so §$%& complicated ;)" ... yea ... me too!

have fun!
mario

Wow, thanks Mario! I think this makes perfect sense. I have only been using Diego's fix on user tabs I created, not on the sidebar tabs. I can see why users would want to open those in view mode, not edit mode.

Hi Mario,

I use a very simplistic approach to the problem -- a macro called edit-this.  Inside the source tiddler for the tab, I can point it to the actual source tiddler, which may not be the tiddler used due to transclusions etc.

Obviously, this means I don't have a way to target shadows etc. -- that would be a bad idea.  Hence, I'll certainly play with your solution when it arrives.

Even so, how will your system handle transcluded sources?  Clicking a link to be shown a tiddler that contains {{sorry-look-elsewhere}} is not the best solution.  Perhaps you could check to see if there is a field "source" and open the value it contains?

Hi folks,

I did upload a new plugin: edit-tabs - https://wikilabs.github.io/editions/edit-tabs/, that lets automatically open non-system tiddlers in edit mode.

As I wrote in my last post, there is some js code needed, to make the stuff happening. ... That's why I did create a new plugin, and keep link-to-tabs as simple as possible.

So edit-tabs  _replaces_  link-to-tabs ... You should not install them both!

edit-tabs is experimental atm. ... Because at the time of this writing, I thought: ... I should have made the "open system-tiddlers in edit mode" configurable

So there may be a new version in the future.

have fun!

I would like to ask if possible add this small feature to link-to-tabs

- hidden by default
- visible on selected tab mouse hover

Hi folks,

I did upload a new version 1.1.0 of link-to-tabs plugin.

edit-tabs will follow soon.

New:

 - New configuration option to initially hide the link button
 - Transition time can be adjusted using the settings in the ControlPanel.

The transition uses a cubic-bezier setting. So it starts slow and rises fast. You can test the behaviour if time set to 1 or 2

have fun!

TABS! TABS! not tags... I had to reread it several time before I understood that!

I'm going to make a pr request that tabs are known as slatybartfasts in order to reduce confusion.

Hi Mario,
 Many thanks for your updates!

- it seems the hover only works when you move the mouse very close to right edge! So, putting mouse over tab does note show the link icon on top right and you have to
move pointer very close to right edge!

Please have a look.

Ooh! I know this one!

  • Check for a font you like
  • Visit: http://www.fontsquirrel.com/tools/webfont-generator
  • Upload your font file (".ttf", ".eot", ".woff", etc) and select "Expert" option
  • Check the option case at CSS >> Base64 Encode
  • Generate your webkit: the output file is a ".zip" file containing a text file with the CSS code (stylesheet.css)
  • Copy all text from that file into a tiddler
  • Make sure the field font-family is what you want
  • Tag the tiddler "$:/tags/Stylesheet" and change the tiddler type to "Plain text (text/plain)"
  • Done! Your font is available :)

At the moment. That's intentional.

I'm no fan of hidden elements. I think: If they are hidden they shouldn't be there. If they are useful, everyone should see them.

But I can see some usecases, where it makes sense to have them. eg: If newbie users shouldn't be distracted or confused by advanced features. But advanced users or content creators should be able to use them, without the need to publish 2 different versions.

        thanks for demonstrating on your website that this is possible at all!

Please allow me to remain Your most humble admirer,

Hey Pit. W,

/blush. That praise is way too high. I'm still learning how to use this tool. The generous people of the TW community are constantly showing me how to use and reason about Tiddlywiki.

I didn't respond after Aidan because that is the method I used, and I didn't want to derail the thread. I didn't see a way to contact you directly, so I'm posting here.

I'm just a madman. I'm lucky to have found TW: a tool to contain my insanity. It is always my honor to speak with people. Feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

h0p3

Hi @Aidan Grey,

Following your instruction, I successfully added a font to my wiki, with bj's ckeditor plugin. @BJ
I added the font name to $:/plugins/bj/visualeditor/config.json "font_names", the font appears in editor 'Font' dropdown.
However the font only displays in view mode, but not in edit mode.
What should I do for the font to display in edit mode as well?

  • Done! Your font is available :)

h0p3,

I looked at your beautiful website, especially your Zing font.

I would like to convert a .ttf font into such a stylesheet to make it
available on a mobile standalone tw file.

Could you tell me how I can do this conversion?

Pit.W

Yeah, I'd like to know how to do that too... I tried using ONLY a specific font, setting a class for .textarea, etc. but no luck.
