New User - Tiddler Manager Question

Hello all,

First, don't be too harsh if this has been asked and answered previously.  I have done a few hours of searching and have not found a clear answer to my issue/question.

Scenario:

Using the Tiddler Manager tool and selecting any Tiddler from the list, I have leftover Tags (unchecked) hanging out in the Tags checkbox list at the upper right. These (unchecked) tag options are displayed with every Tiddler listed in Tiddler Manager. None of these tags are in use with any Tiddler and these tags do not show up in Tag Manager whatsoever. As far as I can tell, this is the only place these tags remain.

I'd like them to go away.

The tools I've found seem centered on removing or finding/replacing tags that are associated with existing Tiddlers. That is not the case here.  They are 'orphan' tags not associated with anything.

I'd welcome any guidance, and I look forward to learning from this group (I have a great deal already).

Hi Chad,

Have you checked Include system tiddlers? If you have you will see also the system tags. Those are not shown in Tag Manager.
You would not want to be without them. If you do not want to see them just uncheck Include system tiddlers.

I have not included system tiddlers, so this is not the issue.

As probably happens a lot, I believe I've found the answer to my own question - taking a bit of a circuitous route to get there.

I did a search of the raw HTML for the phrases NPC - Rolent Landing Port and Quartz - MIrage (the two unchecked boxes in the image).

Parsing a bit more, I found references between these two tags in the markup corresponding to the: $:/config/Manager/RecentTags system tiddler.

Opening up $:/config/Manager/RecentTags, I found that these two entries were defined as list entries and, thankfully, there is an option to delete them.

If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion, it seems curious that tags not used in any place within the wiki should show up as 'recent' and present themselves in this fashion via Tiddler Manager, though there may be an intended use for this that I do not understand.

Hmmm. They apparently get added whenever you add a tag through the tiddler manager. I can see where this would be useful for working on a particular batch of tiddlers, but then become cumbersome as the list grows. There needs to be a way to easily clear the list.

Than you Chad, your image and explanation made it so much clearer.
You might want to remove a tag from one or more tiddlers, and still have an easy way of using it in other tiddlers.

That will be less confusing than hunting all the small tools a lot of us are importing to do the job.

The list of recently used tags doesn’t grow indefinitely, it is capped at 12 entries.

See $:/Manager/ItemSidebar/Tags:

Here’s the action widget that is used to add a new tag to the list:

Thank you to all who have replied here. Now that I understand the intent of this list, its behavior makes more sense.

An ideal scenario - for my situation anyway - would be that any tag removed (such as with a tm-remove-tag button) would also remove it from the list in $:/config/Manager/RecentTags, if so desired. I don't relish the scenario of 'non-standard' tags hanging around in Tiddler Manager that could be added by others.  I'm aware of my control issues :)

In any case, this might be a good small project where I could get my hands dirty to figure out a way to do just that.

BTW: This is a phenomenal piece of software that has really helped me with various hobbies/projects, and this group has been more responsive than I could have hoped.
