Is it possible to import tiddlers (instead of copy pasting)  from a tiddlyspot instance into a giewiki instance on appspot.com?

Hi

It _is_ possible to import in GieWiki.
But some server imports can give errors or do not match and import
fails.

What always works is uploading a local tw.
If importing fails ... collect your tiddlers local in a tw and upload
it to GieWiki.

Importing tiddlers from TiddlySpace also fails (but a TiddlySpace can
be downloaded too)
TiddlyCouch to GieWiki works fine.

Hi

I've tried to import a tiddlywiki from GieWiki, but it says 0 tiddlers to import.
Tried with exported tiddlyspace file and also the empty.html file from the distribution.
Any idea why?
Tried to use provided ImportTiddlers plugin, didn't work. Then tried to paste the ImportTiddlers plugin from tiddlyspot.com, but didn't work either - is there any alternative plugin?

Also, any plans for searching in lazy tiddlers, i.e with a rest service or similar?

Thank you
Dan

GieWiki is based on:
var version = { title: "TiddlyWiki", major: 2, minor: 4, revision: 1, date: new Date("Aug 4, 2008"), extensions: {}}

The internal "storeArea" format used by TiddlyWiki has changed over the past 7 1/2 years, so the format being used by GieWiki is simply so out-of-date that it cannot be recognized by newer versions of either TiddlyWiki Classic or TiddlyWiki5.

Hi

Thanks a lot for the quick answer.

Just one curiosity though - which I had for quite some time, didn't find any answers.
Why is Tiddlywiki + tools so outdated nowadays? It's really a fantastic tool, easy to use and I couldn't find anything else that is so fast, fully ajaxified views. It's the perfect tool for quick entry and retrieval of information. Was looking at DokuWiki but it's slower not being not ajax based, not fast in utilisation as tiddlywiki with multiple tiddlers open, etc.

About GieWiki I think it's really great since it loads the tiddlers asynchronously. If only the search were rest-based, it would have a complete solution. So after reading your reply I feel maybe there's no plan to upgrade it to latest version and don't know yet if it's hard to do - I could try it myself although Python skills are just entry-level.

Was thinking maybe to use TiddlySpace as alternative and install on a server somewhere. But TiddlySpace doesn't have async loading, it's quite hard to setup(tried several times without success, some scripts failing here and there) and since it loads all tiddlers it became slow. An async solution like GieWiki would be great.

Kind regards
Dan

TiddlyWiki (www.TiddlyWiki.com) has been completely re-written.  The current version is TiddlyWiki 5.1.11.  Note that this is not simply an update to the old TiddlyWiki Classic codebase.... all of TiddlyWiki has been re-implemented from the ground up, building on the lessons learned from TiddlyWiki Classic, but with an entirely different internal architecture... that includes handling for 'lazy loading' of tiddlers (using NodeJS locally to serve tiddlers).

If your question was about *my* TiddlyTools.com site... yes, it hasn't been updated since 2013.

A) The site content is stable.  There's very little that needs updating.  One exception: file I/O and other security-related changes in browsers has disabled some of the features my plugins were providing.  However, without extensive re-coding, there's no practical way to restore some of those features... and doing so would likely introduce other problems that would need even more attention.

B) The site is for TiddlyWiki Classic and, while TiddlyWiki Classic is still widely used for existing documents, most people (including myself) have transitioned to doing their *new* work in TiddlyWiki5+.  I am working on a new set of TiddlyTools add-ons that have been written specifically for TiddlyWiki5, as well as re-implementing some of my TiddlyTools Classic plugins to provide similar feature enhancements (where applicable) for TiddlyWiki5.  The new "TiddlyTools5" site is not yet published... but I'm actively working on it, so it should be soon...

enjoy,
-e

Hi Eric

Thank you for the comprehensive answer, really good to know what direction to take :)

For my use case, I'm using TiddlyWiki classic with 2 essential plugins:

Are there any replacements for these in TiddlyWiki5+? Or could I use them there?

I've googled for using TiddlyWiki5+ with NodeJS on Google App Engine, but didn't find any meaningful results. The only possibility was to host the standalone html file there but I'd much prefer the NodeJS with async loading to be there.
Since GAE has a free hosting plan for under 1GB of bandwidth per day, it would be great to have it there.
Do you know of any way to host on GAE? or some meaningful alternative?

Btw, would it be possible to get some of your plugins(for me search and tagging would be a nice to have) for TiddlyWiki5 in advance?

Thank you
Dan

In TW5, with filters you can use regular expressions, which gets you a long way towards the features of YourSearch (but not the javascript feature if you're using that).

The built in tagger in TW5 is somewhat intelligent in that it presents a list which then gets narrowed each time you type a letter of the target tag.

If Eric gives you an early peak at his TW5 plugins, a lot of us are going to be very jealous ;-)

I've been working on stuff with my own giewiki, and poul has been a bit more active in developing it lately.

To import tiddlywikis into giewiki, you go to the shadow tiddler (special tiddler, in giewiki), PageSetup, then, on the default tab there, PageProperties, you should see a bunch of things.

You should find "Tiddler libraries" down toward the middle. From there, you can select a tiddlywiki file to upload and which tiddlers to upload. A strange bug: the filename can't have any special characters or spaces.
