So I went looking at VPS options tonight and had it narrowed down to Linode, Digital Ocean, or Google Cloud.  The first two are $5 a month for the base tier, and it looks like google would be free for a year then around $5 after that if I'm reading it right (and if nothing needs to be increased, it falls under the "free forever" offer?).  I figured if it's free I may as well test things to see if I could figure it out, and lo and behold, I have a nodejs version of TiddlyWiki spun up with google.  Surely I did something wrong because...it's working.  It can't have been that easy, there has to be a catch...

Is there something I don't know?  Some "gotcha" that I missed?  Is it truly free forever if I never need anything beyond the basics?  (It's the "Google Compute Engine" option on https://cloud.google.com/free/)

That is great to hear, is it possible to share the basic steps to do this with the community?

Regards

Sure thing!  Is it best to post that here, or somewhere else?  Also, I might want to wait until anyone else weighs in about cons they've found to using google cloud.  Surely it can't be perpetually free AND meet my needs...that's too easy, lol

Compared to other systems, node and tiddlywiki can be light on resources. I think The cloud providers look forward to viral growth that then demands more services and they stand to gain if we use and become familular with their platforms.

Share when you are ready

Thanks
