Hi,

Just tried to upgrade my Tiddly 2.8.1 to the latest 5 version, fllowing the instructions but even though articles are converted and loaded, I do not have the "contents" tab with all my main sections to categorize the articles...

Am I missing something?

Or should I go through several different successive upgrades?

Thanks for any help

TW5 is a complete rewrite of TW meaning that while you can import the tiddlers, they do not function other than as content. I'm guessing you're referring to the MainMenu from TW2.8.1 and you're right in that this will not show up or generate in TW5 as it is constructed in a totally different way. You'll most likely have to do some manual fiddling. On the positive side is that once you're past the "conversion stage" TW5 is much better in many respects.

Specifically for a table of contents, do a search for toc or table of contents macro on tw.com.

Hi
Thanks for your prompt reply.
If I have to manually tweak and get articles to tell them they belong to this topic or sub topic and gain back my "Contents" tab, I give up.
I have hundreeds of pages and it would take days if not weeks.

When I say "Contents" I'm talking about this tab

In my case, it doesn't even show up.
Too bad.

Thanks anyway.

It's not as bad as you think; If you have used tags to categorize your stuff, you can check out the tab you're referring to - it's this one. That's all there is - it contains a macro with a root-tag and it is tagged so it shows up automatically in the sidebar.

More seriously is often that peoples various plugins from TW2.x do not work in TW5.

Well,
Unfortunately, I didn't use tags... So it would be starting from scratch.
Instead I'm looking for an app based that would work on Mac, Win and iOS since I would have to do all the copy/paste anyway.
Thanks

Can I ask - how did you structure your tiddlers if not by tags?

I was just creating sections in the main welcome page using [[topics]], and [[sub topics]] etc...

By "main welcome page", do you mean the TWC MainMenu tiddler?  If so, then that tiddler should have been imported with the rest.

And, if you used simple bracketed link syntax in TWC, that syntax is the same in TW5, so all the links to your topics and sub-topics should still be valid.

The only thing is that there is no MainMenu *display* in the default TW5 layout (just the StoryRiver and SideBar), so it doesn't appear automatically.

The default sidebar tabs only include "open, recent, tools, more".  The Contents tab you see in the Sidebar on TiddlyWiki.com is an extra customization so it can show the TW documentation that is included on the site.

The TW5 "empty.html" does *not* have that customization, so you need to add it.

Fortunately, it's incredibly simple:

To add your MainMenu tiddler to the Sidebar tabs, just tag it with "$:/tags/sidebar".  If you want the tab to read "Contents", add a *field* named "caption" to the MainMenu tiddler, and set the value of that field to the desired tab text.

That should do it.

Let me know how you get on...

enjoy,
