TW5 How does TagglyTagging work here?

I'm after a little help please.

Matias seems to be using TagglyTagging in his TW ie listing tags at the bottom of certain tiddlers (eg the Tiddler called workflow.)

He may be applying a custom stylesheet by tagging with $:tags/Stylesheet, but I'm having trouble working his method out.

Hi Steve!

I seem to be using something from grand twizard Tobias; see his tb5 pocket full of tips. A search for "taggly" gives three resulting tiddlers to check out.

TagglyTagging is the reason I haven't yet migrated my main TW over from TWC to TW5. I make extensive use of TagglyTagging, especially with the grouping options as you can see: http://www.kizar.co.uk/TW/library.html

Having a decent TagglyTagging in TW5 would possibly persuade me to migrate. (Yes Migrate not Upgrade, TW5 still doesn't have as much functionality as TWC yet... but it's getting there fast.)

I've looked at the solutions provided by Tobias, Simon and Jed all come close to implementing the old classic TT system, but none match it for ease of use yet. But I do keep a hopeful eye on all solutions to this issue. Until then, I'll stick with TWC.

Wow - great example Dragon. How do you load all that info?  Imports from exel or csv files?

Import it with a simple .bat file to generate the <div>s and then insert it into TW. It's taken about 3 years to get to it's current form.

But it's TagglyTagging which is at the heart of the system. I'd be really interested in your experiences with using TT inside of a TW5 setup.

Although the current TT plugins seem to do an excellent job of listing the sub-entries, they don't appear to do so well in displaying the hierarchy, and grouping options which the original TT did. Now it may be my limited understanding of the way TW5 works, but if it needs complicated editing to make it handle all the options, then it fails as a system which any "Joe Public" could use. The original TT didn't need any fancy settings or options. Clicking the display options did everything for you.

That's the kind of functionality that is needed to get people using it.

Hello! I found the TW5 Taggly Tagging http://tobibeer.github.io/tb5/#Taggly%20Tagging%20For%20TW5 & imported the 3 tiddlers. I am now wondering how to use this. Is this the same thing for creating a tag tree as mentioned in this post? http://mptw.tiddlyspot.com/#TagglyTagging & the apparence of my tag tree under a tag as tiddler indicates that it works? or is it supposed to work another way? Sorry this is new for me, the instructions seem very minimal, & I can't puzzle out the steps to using something from reading the code. How did you start using your tag system? (I am working in the TW5 environment)

This is the thing that showed up when I followed the mptw instructions.

 Is this what is supposed to happen because of the imported code? I'd feel silly to have imported a tag system tiddly but actually be using something else & thinking I'm using the import.

The latter of these features the original TagglyTagging made for TW2/Classic which you cannot use in TW5.

The former is a variant for TW5 but somewhat different. 

The various ToC macros have been created in TW5 that cover similar ground. Nobody has, to my knowledge, created a quire similar variant of TagglyTagging for TW5. 

If you describe which specific aspects of TagglyTagging that are important to you, maybe someone can help you.

My question was whether I was using the TW5 TagglyTagging correctly

because I didn't know how to use it after importing, I looked up & followed the instructions for the TW2/Classic

Based on what you say, it appears that following the instructions for the Classic is the same for the TW5, so my usage is correct.

If you say it works, the I guess it works. Personally I am not very familiar with the TW5 version and it was years ago that I used the TWC version so I certainly cannot say that the same instructions apply to both. But just try it out and you'll find out :-)

Seems like a lot of this is already baked into current TW5.

There is a "New here button"

Tags can tag tags. You can go to a new tag from the drop down list. Click on a tag and you can see all the things it's tagging. Use the Info button to see all the items the current tiddler is tagging.

This last part could be made more convenient by putting a list of what the current tiddler is tagging at the bottom in a template. But that could be a substantial list in many cases.

It's unclear from the TWC tutorial what parts are missing from TW5.

as a novice I am having a little difficulty with the tutorials as they are quite succinct, but I suppose this is part of the learning curve....The depth of my ignorance on the backstage of a computer machine constantly astounds me. 

Thankful there are places like this to find things out. I looked for a personal wiki format as the minimal & intuitive front-end blog designs do not satisfy my need to customize structure, & I am nowhere near being able to make something from scratch.

Hi Mark,

If you look at http://mptw.tiddlyspot.com/#TagglyTagging see the light grey small letters above the tagging .....now hover, and see even more. Try to click through the options and see all the possibilities right there for sorting, filtering and viewing slices and sliders.

I still think it made a lot of things easier for beginners to start using TW. Used by everyone because it was quick to do and start your wiki was easy.

You might be right that we can do most of it, but not nearly as easy and beginner friendly.

Well, you're only a beginner for a day ;-)

For a quick way to get similar functionality, on any tiddler that is a tag for other tiddlers, tag the tiddler with it's own name. That is, if you have a tiddler "Budget", tag it as "Budget". Now when you want to quickly see what things the "Budget" is tagging, just click on the Budget tiddler's "Budget" tag.

There's definitely a learning curve but at the same time it's fun and you can create really cool stuff. And we're here to help. It's best to be as precise as possible when describing what it is you want to achieve, including distinguishing "really want" from "would be nice". Of course, often times you realize what you want just from playing around and testing stuff.
