I am a historian and have been using an assortment of TiddlyWiki Classic files for all of my academic notes for the better part of a decade now. I've been very happy with my system, so until now there has been no reason to check the main website.  Now, however, I would like to create a new TiddlyWiki file for a new project, and I see that there is a new version of the program that is not backwards compatible with the old one.  I was hoping the community could advise me on a few points / check if my understanding is correct:

(1) Even though the Classic version is no longer being updated, there is no reason not to keep using it for my old notes.  It will always continue to work; I don't have to worry about losing my old notes someday.

(2) The conversion to the New TiddlyWiki is clunky and only half functional, so I should probably just leave my old notes system as is in the Classic version.

(3) However, given that I want to start a new TiddlyWiki file anyway, I may as well use the new version for the new project.

(4) If I am using Firefox to work on some TiddlyWiki Classic files and some from the new version, will TiddlyFox work for both?

Anything else I should be considering as I start up a new system in the New TiddlyWiki?

Many thanks in advance.

Yes to everything but 3. You should use the new version only if it will do everything you need it to do, or if you are willing to create things that will do what you need. We are actively working on adding features and plugins, but there is not as much available as there is for classic.
If you use the new version you will probably end up with something that can do everything you want eventually, but if you use a lot of plugins in classic it may be a while.

Correct...  and even if your browser someday stops working with the TWClassic core, the tiddler storage format used in TWClassic files is still recognized by modern TiddlyWiki (TW5), so you can always drag and drop your TWC document into a new TW5 to import your tiddler content there.

(2) The conversion to the New TiddlyWiki is clunky and only half functional, so I should probably just leave my old notes system as is in the Classic version.

True.  While everything you could do in TWClassic can be done in TW5, the new TW5 syntax and methodology is different, and there are *currently* no automatic conversion tools.

(3) However, given that I want to start a new TiddlyWiki file anyway, I may as well use the new version for the new project.

Absolutely!  TW5 has many new, powerful features that you can use to your benefit.

(4) If I am using Firefox to work on some TiddlyWiki Classic files and some from the new version, will TiddlyFox work for both?

Yes, you can use TiddlyFox with both TWC and TW5.

IMO Eric already answered most questions, so I just would like to add some info.

I did create a space for my own [1] to see, where I need to take care. ... If you use a lot of TWc plugins, it will be more work, to change the content. ... On the other hand, the TW5 core implemented many features out of the box, where you would need plugins in TWc.

The biggest difference in formatting is paragraph handling.

Have fun!
