Thanks Dan D for the Jones Point suggestion, great location and an easy put-in for my SUP. Saturday was gorgeous, couldn't resist getting on the water. I paddled upriver and drifted down with wind and tide a few times to cast at the second and third pylons from shore under the 495 bridge, but just as Dan predicted It wasn't until I drifted inside the first pylon - out of reach of the bait-casters on shore - that I got a striper hit and brought a 17 incher onto the board. It just lay there posing while I tried to dig out my phone, but it flopped over the side before I got it. Not exactly a beast but my first striper, bummed not to have a pic to show!

Caught it on a brown and white bead-eyed clouser (5 wt rod!), probably 8-10 ft down. It put up a great fight and dragged my paddleboard around as we wrestled. Great time and made my day for sure! Strangely, the bait guys on shore weren't as enthusiastic about it, looked like they were getting blanked. In late afternoon a couple of bass boats got into some at the second pylon. Later in the afternoon when the clouds came in it was definitely more active, with lots of jumpers. Thanks again for the tip, Dan, I'll go back there for sure - next time with an 8 wt.

Jones point is a great spot. Also a great playground for those with little ones.

Can you effectively fish from shore at Jones Point?

Paul you'd have to back cast over some pretty well-traveled walking paths but it's do-able if you're careful I suppose. A pretty solid line-up of bait fishers along that shore that might not fancy it, but live and let live. Note that the sea wall is up pretty high at lower tides.

Joel -

Where do you launch the SUP from?  I've been checking the place out on google earth, but an easy - no ding - launch is not apparent from looking.

Thanks
Vic

There's a floating dock that comes off the sea wall. It sits high on the water so maybe a little tricky for low slung kayaks but perfect for sups. You can't see it on google earth because it's under the 495 bridge, which also makes it a good spot to be in a downpour!
