Not quite flyfishing, but does anyone on the board ever do any ice fishing around here?  Seems like there are some lakes with a good freeze in western maryland within a few hours of DC, and I'm itching to get out a bit this winter.

Been awhile now but I ice fished Deep Creek once. Rented a cabin and fished the cove across from the Wisp Ski Area the first day. Caught 5-6 pickerel and a 15 inch brown trout. This is a fairly shallow weedy area. The next day i fished a deeper area within the state park and caught some nice fat yellow perch. Seems like a long time since we had any decent ice around here locally though.

Deep Creek Lake in western Maryland, may be an option, I'd  contact contact Maryland dept. of Natural Resources for more info.

For those interested, I made it out to Rocky Gap for a few hours this past Sunday, and had two flags pay off.  Top one is probably a fall stockie, but guessing the bottom guy is a holdover.  Much better color, and had obviously been eating its Wheaties.  They're both on the smoker now, set to be lunch. If anyone ever wants to join, I'd love the company, especially if you know what you are doing more than I do...
