Hello Anglers,

My name is Stefan and I was introduced to your website by a fellow fraternity brother of mine in the DC area. I met him on LinkedIn and was asking him questions about fishing in DC throughout the summer. I will be completing cancer research as an intern at NIH throughout the weekdays, but would love to spend a lot of time on the Potomac on the weekends. Unfortunately, I will not be able to bring my spinning rods from KY - I am posting on here because I am in need of guidance on the best route for me to start fishing this summer. I wont have any gear and will not want to spend a lot of money on gear that I cant bring home with me... Is there anyone that could help me out and maybe show me the ropes? I have never fly fished before, but I have heard it is popular over there! Ill be in DC at the beginning of June so hopefully I get some feedback before then.

Thanks for the help,

Stefan

Hi Stefan-welcome to DC! I run the Aquatic Resources Education Center in Anacostia Park. We are the education arm of the Fisheries and Wildlife Division of the DC Department of the Environment. We have spincasting fishing gear that we could lend you for the summer. We also plan and deliver a fun youth fishing event at Fletchers Cove on the C & O Canal every year. It is called the Family & Youth Casting Call www.familyandyouthcastingcall.com. We get a lot of adult anglers in the area to volunteer to help us at this event. If you are not busy June 13-14, you are welcome to join us and meet other local anglers helping with this event. I could also let you take a rod home with you if you help us out for a few hours with the kids. Let me know if you would like to join us!
Teresa Rodriguez,

Eric Y.

Glad to see you found your way here, Stefan. I have a few pairs of waders I can lend you for the summer if you'd like them. They all fit shoe size 13. Give me a call when you get in town and I'll hook you up with a pair.
