All-

May head out to fletchers to get some fishing in tomorrow morning.  This is my first year here in VA for shad, assuming I missed the end of the Shad season?  What’s biting these days at fletchers? Especially given the current heat wave. Thanks for any tips/advice.

Shad cam in Richmond still has shad going going by the window. If they are there they’ll be up here too. Expect Gar, stripers, cats. Clouser minnow is all you need.

I don't know what the hot weather will do to things, but there were some decent stripers around the other day.  No sign of shad but I bet there are still a few around.

i fished wednesday and friday last week. wednesday i caught about a dozen hickories and a striper. friday after it warmed i caught 3 hickories and 1 very nice american. once the sun came up though not even a bite(i was targetting shad, there were a few drifters that looked to be catching stripers on the VA side).

Despite heat, very good American shad bite on Friday and yesterday mornings, lasting until nearly noon. Get your fly very deep. Hard to find but worth looking.

Rob-

Do you have recommendations on a good leader setup for strippers?

You can get by with singles but twenties will get you a better time.

Anyone have any luck catching smallmouth there? I've heard they're around, but never managed to find any...
