Hey guys
I'm new in area, new in country and I want catch striped bass :)

I spent a few nights in the boat jigging holes around fletchers cove but I didn't catch any fish (I have a lot experience with jig). I saw big splashes and it was definitely not crazy shad.

My question is how you guys think they still in the river? Looks like temperature of water is too high for them.
Now water is like 72 and google telling me "Stripers love a water temperature around 55 degrees..plus or minus 5 degrees"
What do you think base on your experience?

Thanks

Boga grips. And the park police want me to send an email explaining why they should have officers down there. They 'have other things to do.'

There are still plenty of stripers around and there will be for a couple more weeks.  Right now there are so many herring in the river that a striper couldn't be bothered to eat a jig or a fly.  Bait fisherman are still catching fish up to 30" but it has been extremely difficult to get one to eat an artificial.  Once the herring thin out it will be possible to catch them on jigs, flies or trolling large crankbaits.  The average size fish decreases over the course of the spring but there should be plenty of 18" fish around for a couple more weeks.  The big splashes you see are mostly large blue catfish.

I think a PowerPoint presentation would be more suitable. With lots of photos!

They could have an officer under Chain Bridge at all times and he would be writing tickets all day.  I yelled at a guy last Sunday who was throwing a cast net and pulling out shad and telling everyone there about how he was gonna keep the shad.

Having dealt with NPS on many levels, i wish you good luck. They are one of the most dysfunctional units of government, the GWMP office in particular, that i've ever seen.
