As most of you know, this year we are attempting simultaneous "Tying Marathons" to benefit Project Healing Waters.  And as you all know, any tying event that TPFR is a part of usually involves beverages!  We were planning to hold our marathon at Whitlow's on Wilson just as we did last year, but we've had a slight conflict with the reservation.  So, our good friends at Port City Brewing have offered us the "Beer Garden" at their brewery to hold the event.

So, the 2015 TPFR/Project Healing Waters fly tying marathon will be held at Port City Brewery in Alexandria from 11AM-3PM.  Address and directions to Port City can be found here:  http://www.portcitybrewing.com/the-brewery/

For those of you who have yet to participate in a PHW Tying Marathon, we descend upon a location and crank out as many flies as we can for the duration of the event.  At the end, all flies are donated to Project Healing Waters for distribution to their programs across the country.  Simply put, your flies will end up on the end of a Veteran's line, so please come join us and share your time, talents and materials for this awesome cause.

I have gotten some sponsorship from Orvis again, so we'll be raffling some great gear.  Bring a stack of twenties if you want to participate in the raffle.  We'll also be collecting monetary donations for Project Healing Waters on site, so if you just want to contribute to the cause that is always a good way.

I'll make additional announcements this week in the lead up, and I'm looking forward to seeing a ton of you all there!  No reason to wait until Friday to start tying though, crank some out this week and bring them to the tie to jump start the pile!

It's going to be an awesome time, and thanks in advance to all who can participate!

OH, and to be clear, this is on the same date as the PHW Tying Marathon being held at the Marine Corps Museum.  The goal in the coming years is to have a National Tying Day with marathons occurring across the Country on the same date.  These events are not in conflict with each other, they directly benefit PHW in the exact same way.  So please pick whichever location works best for you and make plans to attend.  Others can chime in with more details about the Museum marathon.

You mean Saturday correct Dan?

I wanted to do this last year and kicked myself for not doing so....I'm certain I was attempting to catch fish on a 50-60F day, but where the water is still 42F or something.  This seems to be one of the easiest ways to contribute a tangible product for a good cause -- I'll be there.

Also for fly patterns -- I imagine there are 2-3 "ideal" patterns that PHW really uses up quickly for the Veterans.  Do you know what they might be looking for most?

Thanks Dan,

Gene

Gene:

The PHW flier for Quantico (where I'll be Saturday) has recommended patterns in lower right corner:

Thank you Mark -- that's perfect.

That's quite a list!  I'll tackle San Juan worms if you guys can tackle double-articulated stump bangers and humpies.

Good to hear, Gene. That doesn't encroach on my plan to tie Usuals and Cracklebacks at Quantico. ;-)

Usuals?  Aren't those made from the feet of ice bunnies?

Tie it up Mark!
