Hi all,

My family is planning a trip to the Cocoa Beach area in late December. I found a couple forum posts on the area for earlier in the season—is everything shut down by December?

Thanks in advance!

I am sure you will find some fish off the beach, white clousers and deceivers from size 2-2/0 should do the trick. At least that's what works for me around Christmas time in Stuart, FL. Walk the beach and look for any structure you see, or birds working, or fish in the surf. Or just blind cast and you may get lucky.

If you can rent a kayak, go explore the rivers a bit, should be some fun and interesting fish back there too.

If you want try the Indian River Lagoon I just did two days with Capt. John Kumiski and had a blast. I didn't get my redfish on fly (I hooked a large one sight casting but the hook pulled) but I had a great time and will be back to try again.

I worked with John in Alaska. He's top of the class and a blast to fish with.

Not to mention he takes great photos. I highly recommend him.

Have fished Cocoa a bunch.  I used:

Captain
 Tim Sheridan

More of a bait guy but has feel for where the fish are.

for DIY suggest fishing:
and

You can also rent a kayak and put in:

or go up to the NMZ.

I left a homemade stripping basket at the first place, a bait shop.  They owner is cool and will let you fish around his place.

Best restaurant in the area is the Fat Snook.
