This weekend, my favorite bass pattern failed me, so did Rob's worm fly, and almost every fly in my box. i did end up catching three fish, all on a green copper john. I need a few new patterns to try out in rock creek, any suggestions.

I've had good luck over the summer with a black and yellow gurgler pattern I tied.  Some bucktail for the tail, hackle to make the body kind of leggy, and a piece of black foam with a lip at the front to let you make a little noise in the water.  I call it the bumble bee.

Looks good. I've had great luck with them as well. I started doing 6 and 8in long gurglers. They seem to get more attention having 2 or 3 bills.

Hard to beat a Clawdad on RCP. Usually throw those and if they fail, resort to a pattern I tie up called the starfoxx. Essentially a flashed up golden retriever -

I'm new to tying, but this damsel pattern has done well for me this summer, especially dropped below a dark green popper (and it's dead easy to tie, as you could guess from the URL):

For sunfish, I really only use a #12 Elk Hair Caddis, so not much help there.

Starfox?  I prefer the SNES version but also played the 64 version.  I liked it better when the creatures just made noise instead of actual English.

I've had good luck using partridge and yellow (and other spider-style wets) with and without beads.  Everything works though -- just look at the different patterns already mentioned.

Contrary to what some people will tell you about how "dumb" sunfish are, there are days where they are not easy to catch -- plain and simple.

Did you leave the fish at Orvis? What if they eat it before I get there?

As Lucas mentioned he tied his salmon zonker at the store. It's pretty cool- well done Lucas. I'm going to swing it this fall so I'll let you know if it produces. Lucas wants to name the fly after Paul Rudd, right big guy? Perhaps the Sydney Slicker?
