Why yes, I most certainly do. I plan to fish Beaver Creek, MD on Sunday. I hope there will still be some BWOs on the surface, but that's probably doubtful given that there will be a freeze on Saturday. I'll keep the group posted. Tight loops and lines!

I was scheduled to fish for musky today with Blane Chocklett.  The rains on Thursday blew the rivers out in SW VA.  So once again my fishing opportunities are a bust.

Yes, musky.  Musky that will eat your trout and don’t care much for the taste of BWOs.

Ha-ha this is hilarious good stuff Ashley. How'd beaver end up treating you ? I love that stream... Were the BWOs popping? I had some friends up there this weekend. According to them, the fishing was slow but still got a few on scuds and sich. Hopefully you had a good go.

Yeah, I'd say it went pretty well (see pic). (And I bet this bruiser could at least stand a chance vs. a muskie, Rich.) All bows, no brownies for a change. There were some BWOs and rises, but not much. I had luck on golden retrievers, small orange estaz eggs, shaky worms, and BH FB PTs.

That's awesome. Right on! No browns?? That's crazy for the Beaver. Congrats though on a great fish. I bet he was fun on - what it looks like- a three weight.

yup, a 7'6" 3 wt with 6x. it took over 10 minutes to land. I was targeting rainbows for a change. I normally pull way more browns behind the fly shop.

Sounds like a great day man. That's a tough stream, so much respect. I presume you  got into those bows closer upstream to the hatchery then?

Actually no; I was fishing the lower area, just downstream of the dead water. I've also gotten into a few bows (and brownies) up by the hatchery. But it's a long hike/walk to just fish a few plunge pools, so I normally just fish behind the shop and at the lower section.

Yeah I am trying to get in that club. I just posted about getting a few with size 28 fly. I had 7x on tho. One was over twenty for sure but i never got a photo it plopped back in off the beach lol. Two were about 18 and I was pleased with that.  Fights took me a while.. similar to your 6x beaver bow. So much fun.

I think we saw that fish -- was it the first "riffle pocket" upstream from the private line stretched across the stream (by the wood pile)?  Couldn't get him to take anything.  2 of his buddies shared the same pocket and I got them, but no dice on the big fella.

These posts are running together, but speaking of click-and-pawls......Beth's 3-weight has one of those battenkill clickers with 1/2 of a 3-weight line spooled on it and it makes a lot of bloody noise.  She hooked a decent rainbow (not nearly as nice as the one above ^^) and it pulled "buzz" for a bit at first, to the extent that another guy above us offered his net ;). 

She said "Oh, no thank you.  He's not that big....this crappy reel just sucks is all".  Lol.  I guess she doesn't like palming.

I was also going to add -- in that same stretch with all of the fat fish I hooked a decent brown sitting in about a 1" square in between 2 pockets.  Couldn't believe a fish was in there, but I guess he decided to hide tightly in there.  He whacked my PT nymph the moment it dropped 1" into the water.....telling me  that it could have been a booger with a hook on it and it would have been just as effective.

Not that I couldn't pocket-pick a 1" square to get a 13" brown.  Happens all the time -- "I've had 3 fish on 3 tandem copper johns before".

you know, i was thinking he looked just like that biggun that hangs by the wood. But I got him way upstream of that, just before it again turns to deadwater. Maybe they're cousins...

I've never been able to get the one by the wood to eat anything. I saw one guy get him with a shaky worm, fight him for ~5 minutes, pull out his camera, and lose the fish.

Gene, I think those reels are dynamite.  I have one access reel that has a drag system other than that my 3 w, 4w and 5 w rods usually have a  "click in paul" battenkill. I love them. They're cheap and  I love the challenge of palming, but I'd be a liar if it hasn't bit my in my arse.

I haven't fished beaver recent enough to chime in on where any fish are sitting, but yall seem to have a good idea. I just sit on that rock there in front of the big honey hole beind the shop, with the overhanding tree, and pick off fish that come to the head of the pool to feed. Doesn't really get old. You like suckers huh? Don't we all..

I think I was that guy! I've never met you, Beth, but I did offer my net to someone fishing the hole below me on the lower section of beaver.  I had seen a bruiser in there earlier that morning, and the sound of the reel made me think you had him.  I wanted to get a look at that fish, so the least I could do was offer you my net!  Great fish ^^ by the way!  I've hooked into some of the beasts on beaver, but haven't landed anything over the magic number of 20".  The big ones always tend to find a way off.

Well, then thank you kindly!  That reel is sitting in the bed of the truck now that I think about it.....better put it away when I get home. 

Several weeks ago (end of summer) she hooked a monster in there on a really small midge nymph (or pupa?....after a few weeks it gets fuzzy) and he ran her off on some brush.  Indicator went floating downstream, the whole beautiful picture.  I'm still hearing about that even though I'm almost certain the snag was to blame. ;)  I saw him on bottom "flashing", eating something...but I gave up after a few casts.  I don't have the patience like she does.

I wasn't kidding either -- if someone catches that 24" sucker on a fly I'll buy them 2 beers at next beer tie.  Suckers are probably the most challenging "fly" fish in there and a lot of other trout streams, and they fight hard.  Used to get 'em on corn kernels in Missouri --

Fried white sucker tail is like a potato chip ;).  That's a MO thing though -- don't know if they do it around here, but you weirdos do have that scrapple.

First time I ever went out to fish exclusively with nymphs, the early days of my fly fishing ca.1985, I was fishing a pod of fish (8, 10 or 12 good sized ones!)  under a bridge near the old Crayola factory on Bushkill Creek in Easton PA when an older fisher gent up on the bridge pointed out to me that they were suckers and I was wasting my time. ;-) The next week I did much better on stocker rainbows in Martins Creek. A couple of those came home for dinner.
