Anyone ever fly fish in Tronso Norway? Might have a few day and looking for advice on what is possible...

What time of year? It is getting darker by the minute up there and sea ice isn't too many months away.

But generally you can catch saithe (like pollock) and small cod anywhere you can cast from the rocks. Literally anywhere. I didn't fly fish, but bought a cheap spinning rod and some steel jigs and caught all I wanted anytime I wanted. Not unusual to see breaking fish and they are usually saithe. You want to be the most popular guy in the hostel? Bring fish back for dinner. A little later in the winter and some of the biggest cod in the world head up into the fjords to do their thing. That's not a fly game, but there are plenty of charters around. I didn't intend to do any fishing but ended up staying in Å fishing for a week. You can rent boats in that town. Little roto-molded plastic boats with outboards to fish the North Sea!

I think you'd do quite well with flashy/jiggy flies that sank fast. The jigs we used were no more than 60g and 3" long. There were feeding on small bait. But that was in mid summer. The big cod follow adult herring into the fjords.

The first pic is the typical shore catch, most fish are 1-2#s. The top two are saithe and the bottom two are cod.

The second pic are the rental boats.

The third pic is saithe caught from the boats. Those fish were over a seamount and pretty much right on the surface.

There is trout fishing but most of it is in lakes and private. When I was there in July they had a really late spring so I didn't fish freshwater as a lot of it was still frozen. I think all of the freshwater opportunities are going to be inland and below the Artic Circle. I could be wrong on that.

Don't hesitate to ask any questions. I was just in my trip pictures yesterday and I can't wait to go back.
