Good Morning All!  My family and I are new to fly fishing and are trying to find new fishing spots near us.  We live in La Plata in Charles County, MD.  Ideally we'd be looking for bank/wading spots that can accommodate all four of us.  We live very close to Gilbert Run/Wheatley Lake and have fished there many times.  We're willing to drive a bit would also like to have a few options close to home.  Thanks!

St. Charles Lake in Waldorf is decent and very accessible. I've caught some nice bass there and in the long pond next to it. It has produced largemouths, bluegill, crappie, warmouth, and even a random pickerel from time to time.

Hmm bank fishing for four around southern MD is kind of a tall order... unless you're standing on a spillway dam there's not much in the way of solid ground due to the area's geology. Some well known spots around you are Allen's Fresh and Mattawoman Creek for the winter yellow perch run. One suggestion I have for you though is St. Mary's lake. It's nice, you should definitely check that out sometime. On google maps it says it's temporarily closed though? Not sure what that's about. Maybe just the park facilities are closed, but you can still access the lake.

Thanks all (a bit late) for the recommendations.  After reading these and looking at the local maps a bunch I ended up deciding to get a jon boat to increase my ability to access water.  It's been a game changer as I can now get access to all of the innumerable creeks in the local area.
