SNP on Sunday

Anyone want to do some brookie fishing on Sunday? Weather looks good, and where I plan to fish I think most of the fish are done spawning. Open invite (all skill levels welcome). Day will entail 4-5 miles of hiking total. I usually catch between 20-40 fish when I go to this stream. It's a small stream and wading is not necessary, but due to steep rocky terrain, I don't like going alone. Reply here or shoot me an email if interested!

Low but very fishable. Fish were inactive except when the sun briefly hit one section of stream.

I took a hike with my wife (scouting trip is what I call hiking these days) east slope SNP along one of my favorite streams-found it exceedingly low and leaf clogged. Glad you found some better areas. I'll be holding off for some rain for sure before making the trip again.

Anyone have a bead on what Hughes River flow is looking like right now? I've got the reservation for Corbin Cabin this weekend and really hope to have decent water levels.

It hasn't rained it what seems like forever.  Doubt they are very good.

Lower hughes, just inside the backcountry boundary holds decent water through the summer, but with the lack of rain we've gotten, I would venture to guess it is probably too low right now.  On a cloudy day, you may be able to use some of the large boulders to hide behind and cast, but it will be difficult.  That being said, if you have corbin already, just carry the extra pound and bring the rod, and a few flies.

While I didn't fish Hughes this past weekend (Nov. 12), I did fish Conway on the east slope of SNP.  It was low, leaf-filled and the bright sunny day made Brookies wary and elusive.  Had to approach each pool on knees so not to spook.  Did manage to catch a few on a Hi-Viz Black Ant on top.  When you're at Corbin, let us know if you experience anything weird or unusual.  Legend has it the Corbin matriarch died there years ago and her presence can still be felt.  I volunteer at PATC and "man" the Cabins desk occasionally, so have heard some stories over the years.  You can look it up online and you'll read and hear witness accounts.  If you're atthe next Beer Tie in Dec, I'll ask around if you're there and we can chat. I fished the Rapidan a week ago.  Water levels were pretty good.  That area had gotten some rain --not sure when but there were plenty of puddles on the road while driving up the mountain.  I caught over 25.  Most caught on a nymph using a dry as my indicator.  I fished the area along and below the Rapidan Camp.  Just where orange if your outside the park but in the management areas.  It's deer season.

Lower elevation/gradient streams are probably lower than where we were fishing (up around 1600-1900' elevation). The steeper streams tend to hold the water in the pools better, the water levels Sunday were actually higher than one time when I fished the same stream last summer. It could just have been localized to that basin. Planning to post a couple pics later.
