If any of you like me have enjoyed the excellent fishing at this local reservoir, you need to read this:
http://www.leesburgtoday.com/news/loudoun-water-closes-reservoir-access-begins-multi-year-renovation/article_0ba5ac32-ca2f-11e3-852c-001a4bcf887a.html

Ernie Rojas brought it up last week at the Potomac River Smallmouth Club meeting. I've written a letter to Mr. Mark Peterson (mpet...@loudounwater.org), Executive Director of Stakeholder Relations, Loudoun Water, asking that Loudon Co reconsider a more reasonable way to do this project than a blanket 4 year prohibition on all public access. Hopefully he'll reply this week; if so I'll let you know. However I'd encourage any of you who also think this is over the top to likewise voice your opinion with Mr Peterson and Loudon County officials.

Durn! I was always curious about that body of water. Never got around to fishing it. Did you ever catch any smallies out of the reservoir?

I have never caught a smallmouth bass at Beaverdam reservoir but the VDGIF says they are in there. I have caught panfish and largemouths there, including one lucky day a couple years ago one of the biggest I ever caught on a fly rod. He and his pals are still in there getting bigger... maybe for the next four years. :-(

I'm really unhappy about the news of them suddenly shutting off access. The main attraction of the place for a determined angler is that is not heavily pressured because it is hard to walk the shoreline and there is no boat ramp, but is a fairly large and beautiful body of water, and it's nearby.

The biggest flatwater smallie I've caught in the state of Virginia came from Beaverdam. 21" fish that ate a black wooly bugger. I hope she is still in there growing.

If they're doing work to the dam, that might mean they'll partially drain the lake.... which would be bad news for any remaining smallies.
