Tamiami Trail in Florida. Drive until you see a cool spot and fish it. Keep moving until you find fish. Peacock bass, Mayan cichlids, Oscars, snook, baby tarpon, largemouth, and all kinds of other weird cichlids are all on the menu. Size 6-8 ep minnows in white, gray, tan, olive. Bring a lot. You’ll lose a ton in the trees on the other side. Size 4-6 gurglers in black, purple, and white for the early morning. Seriously fun fishing that is totally DIY. Winter is the best time due to lack of mosquitoes and tolerable daytime temps. Plus bigger snook go into the backcountry in winter, so you always have a shot at a 30+ incher (although most will be 12-20).
