I need help with attaching pictures for all tech people out there

Why is it that if I start a new thread and e-mail a picture like my cicada then it goes through, but if I try and attach a picture to an already existing thread in a reply, I get a message file to big.  It could be the exact same picture ?         I don't get it   :(

I have abandoned using e-mail to attach pictures but instead embed them in the posts by clicking the insert image button on the Google Groups page (unfortunately I don't think you can do this on the mobile/iPad version without switching to Desktop view). The picture gets inserted like the following if you upload:

Max size of email is around 10mb. Pics can be around 5mb or so. First email is fine, but if you reply and the first pic is included along with the new pic, that makes the email too big. When you reply, delete all the quoted/attached stuff.

Terry, make sure your pics are no wider or taller than 2000 pixels and you should be able to attach to your posts.

Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!   It worked  I was able to put a picture of a mouse pattern on an existing thread.    :)
