Virginia Striped Bass Regulation Changes

Recently, VMRC passed emergency regulation changes for Striped Bass which would allow anglers in the bay to keep one Striped Bass per day from 20-36 inches.

This essentially will protect all adult female striped bass as those are the ones usually over 36 inches and will help restore the fishery to what it once was.

On September 24th, VMRC will vote to approve these measures and is sure to receive lots of opposition from catch kill tournament guys as well as charter boat captains.

If anyone has time and does support these measures, an email to the VMRC Commissioner (https://www.mrc.virginia.gov/commissionersoffice.shtm ) would greatly help. He is reading all comments.

I again want to repeat that protecting fish in the bay has a very positive impact on fishing for them in the Potomac, Rapp, as well as the upper bay. Take a look at how many adult red drum there are in Virginia after 1997 on this chart if you want to see how protecting the spanwers helps the fishery.
