So I'm tired of struggling with the oars at the boat house.  I'm contemplating getting a cheap trolling motor for use on the fletcher row boats that I can strap to the back of my bike (lighter is better).  So I have been looking at a 30 lb. batteries trolling motor for around $100 not including the battery.  I have read on other posts that 30 lbs. should take care of me (maybe not shooting around but slow and steady) while others suggest that I need a 50 lbs. motor.  Any thoughts anyone?

I started with a 30 years ago but quickly moved up to 50 and now 55. If it didnt take 24 volts I'd use an 80.
55 will move me around the Cove proper fine but unless it's an incoming tide with flows under 15,000 getting up above the cove is a chore.

how do you intend to get the battery there on your bike?  I'd look for a 3hp honda or something with a self contained gas tank for ease of transportation

Like boat drinks says, the Honda or Yamaha 2.5 HP motors are light. You can lift one with one hand, even loaded with fuel. My fishing partner has one and Mike Bailey is using one. It can push a Fletcher's boat quite nicely.
