Where are the bass nowadays?

So if you were going to do some bass fishing over the next few weeks from shore along the Potomac between say Key Bridge and Scott's Run/Carderock, what type of structure or habitat would you look for?  I'm still pretty much a newbie and generally just wing it.  That's worked before, but it's not working at all this year.  I've had a heck of a time catching bass lately (or anything else for that matter).  I'm not asking for your particular honey hole, but any general tips on what types of "fishy" spots I should be looking for this time of year?   Kind of a broad, basic quesion, but any insights you could provide would be appreciated.  Thanks.

There were some big bass up top on Four Mile yesterday at high tide. 

Schoolies at gravelly too. Though flood lights have been removed so it's not lit up anymore after dark.
