Well, it is an effective mosquito larvicide. Maybe someone was concerned about Zika and had some surplus drums of mineral oil from Operation Desert Storm in their backyard.

Not much info but it states that our good friends at Dominion (that also want to dump the coal ash pond in the Potomac) had a mineral oil spill in the area on January 24.

I might be incorrect, but I'm inclined to surmise that the ample amounts of goose excrement to be found there (and elsewhere) are possibly more worrisome than the mineral oil.

I agree with Mark. It's always easier for everyday folks to "notice" things like this, but the chronic, less obvious (but ever present) problems with water quality around here get a lot less attention.
