Good afternoon TPFR - I'm wondering if anyone in the group has ever fished Nanjemoy Creek.  I'm heading out there Friday and hoping somebody might have some experience to offer.

How did you do?  As mentioned below white perch are fun to catch in the shallows.  Nanjemoy used to be a really good bass fishery but I think it's been fished hard and all the tournament fish get released in Mattawoman, and never find their way back.  Fall was the best but I fished it 2 years ago in October and found nothing, a real disappointment.

There are a few crappie in the upper reaches - I had a friend catch 2 behemoth crappie in the 1970's up so far it narrows to about 20 feet wide - one was over 3 lb, the other just under, among the largest caught in the state that year.

You used to be able to drop a kayak or canoe in where the road crosses in the upper end but a lot of deadfalls make Friendship Landing the only viable option unless you know somebody.

DNR removes a lot of snakeheads and blue cats from there each year.

Probably sound like a broken record with this question, but any pickerel in there?

I've been meaning to post a report for the last couple of days.

Short summary: it was a nice day out, but we got skunked.  We were on kayaks, and put in at Friendship landing at about 10 AM on an incoming tide.  Ended up fishing with spinning gear - between trying out a new inflatable kayak, and a new location, I did not feel good about adding to the difficulty factor by bringing out the fly rod.  We did see lots of activity on the surface - both fleeing baitfish and what appeared to be larger fish.  Threw spinners, senkos, tubes, frogs, and a few other things, and did not get a nibble.  We got about a mile and half in from Friendship Landing, and then turned around to take the outgoing tide out.  Had a bit of an adventure when we miscalculated and almost got stuck by the outgoing tide on a mud flat - barely made it to deeper water.  

I wonder if fishing at lower tides would be better - smaller water would concentrate the fish more.  When we were leaving we saw a few locals at Friendship Landing, who told it was not uncommon to see lots of fish but get no bites on lures, and that they do well for snakeheads with live minnows.

It was a beautiful spot, we only saw one other boat all morning, it was nice kayaking water and I was pleased with the new inflatable, and even with no fish, it was a nice day out - I am planning on going back again.

Only a few "jacks" in the far upper reaches, where it narrows.  If it's pickeral you crave go to the Pocomoke.   The Nassawango Creek float will take you through prime territory.
