The zippers on the rod tubes for both of my Redington rods have broken the the past couple of years. Redington does not replace rod tubes, so I am looking to pick up a couple of replacements, but it looks like the going price online is at least $40 each. I’m wondering if anyone has any ideas on where I could get a couple tubes for less than that (locally is even better).

Thanks,

Josh

Yup,  if it's $40 including shipping, that's a relative bargain.  Shipping rates on tubes is going up a lot.  USPS just added a $5 to $15 surcharge on oversized items.

Cabellas, BassPro, Sierra Trading Post and Ebay would be my places to look. Cabellas.com seems to have one on sale right now. I prefer the cases that have a reel case at the end so the rod and reel are together and they are even more expensive, but I've picked them up when I've seen them on sale over the years.

The other options are a chunk of PVC and a rod sock or aluminum rod tube and sock.  The PVC has the advantage of not attracting as much attention by thieves in a parking lot,  An aluminum tube and rod sock, which is a touch more expensive but looks nicer.

The final option is to find someone to replace the zipper.  Those zippers aren't cheap, but my guess is it will be a lot cheaper than trying to buy a new case.

About a year ago, I was traveling through Richmond and stopped at Green Top. They had several spare/extra rod tubes for less than $10. You may want to call up some local shops and see if they have any extras. Won't match the rods, but also not hurt the wallet as much.

I'll echo Carl re PVC. Additional benefit of using PVC Schedule 40 pipe is that it'll hold up to abuse better than aluminum tubes. It would probably withstand you running your vehicle over it. (Abrams M1 tanks excepted)

I’m not trying to advertise the shop but there are other options.  If some of you were in the shop this weekend and bought our rod tubes up then you probably found what you were looking for.  I have more coming in this week.

TFO triangular rod cases are thinner PVC so they don’t weigh so much, covered in Cordura, and are triangular so bigger rod guides will fit, and they don’t roll around in transit.  $29.
