I am new to fly fishing and I am looking for a place to get some basic lessons. Does anybody have any suggestions on where I can get lessons in the DC area?

Thanks

District Angler ( not sure if they opened the store yet but should be opening soon if they're still under construction )

Orvis Stores

And the Seneca Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited is is putting on a free  fly casting clinic Sunday October 22nd up in Germantown Maryland, check their chapter website and see if you're still space available if you're interested in that one

I've never gone but I have heard that the free orvis 101 class is a pretty good intro.

If you really want to speed up the curve, hire a guide for a day.  It won't be cheap but will be worth the investment if you can swing it.  Just be sure to let them know you are a beginner when you call.

I've taken the Orvis 101 and 201 classes (free) and I highly recommend them. Getting a guide is also a great suggestion. I would take the Orvis classes then go with a guide. I used Rob Snowhite on 4 mile run.

Another vote for the Orvis 101 classes, it's a great way to get a basic understanding.  I think they usually start around March.

There are several prominent members on this board who provide casting lessons and will take you out locally for a reasonable fee.
