I have a significant birthday coming up in January, and would like to go flyfishing.  I'd normally jet down to Miami on frequent flyer miles for a day of bass fishing in the canals with a guide, but would like to get to the following birthday, so not doing that  this year.

Anyone have any recommendations for a 1 day, socially distant guided trip around here?  I can flex my schedule to get the warmest day possible, and have done a lot of winter steelhead and trout fishing.  I'd prefer to float versus wade, I've taken a couple of spills wading in cold weather and didn't like it :-)  Could be fresh or salt.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Have you considered muskie? This is typically a float trip. The Newsletter listed several local/regional guides.

I thought about it when I saw the posting - thanks for the reminder.  I've heard muskies equated to steelhead as the "fish of 1000 casts" so its workable if I set my expectations that I'm not going to catch anything all day :-)

I had someone outside this forum recommend Escatawba Farms - anyone fished there?

You can catch stocked trout 365 days a year.  You will remember your first musky forever.

A couple of friends have fished there. Escatawba Farms (https://escatawba.com/) is a nice layout with easy access to the river. Derrick's a great operator. His website has a map of the layout and fishing holes. It is normally a wading environment. Mainly stocked trout.

As Yambag mentioned, are you looking for a sure thing? Or the possibility of significant memory (State Record is 45lb 8oz).

I think I'll save the possibility of a significant memory for a sunny tarpon day in the Everglades or another trip back to Christmas Island :-)    I think if its cold I'd shoot for catching and continuous casting.  Thanks for the recommendation on Escatawba,  definitely a consideration.  Has anyone fished Harmon's private water in the winter?
