Hi friends and neighbors. I'll be out CA way for a work week in mid-March, at the Marconi Center somewhat east of Point Reyes but with wheels and time. Would much appreciate any info on where to go (I've figured out where not to go according on state and park regs), what to target and what to bring. Many thanks in advance.

That is the perfect area to fish the surf. It is really a great time. Get a stripping basket, cold weather gear, and fish the sunrise and sunset. You need a 6wt and up with a shooting head with a fast sink rate. Perch is always there but it is really a big aquarium of fish even in the wash. Call the guys at lost coast outfitters in SF and they can help dial you in. You need a license, they check even at 4 in the morning. You can get it online.

The only problem is that during the day all you think about is standing in the surf watching the sun rise and catching fish. You do need to love being tossed around, wet, and hot/cold at the same time.

Have fun!
