Way to go Jim!  Keep them coming.  Is the TPFR sticker still on the BEER fridge at the El Pescador Bar?  If not, I'll tag it again in January.  Which guide are you fishing with?

That's called a gafftopsail pompano.  Not a permit, but nice fish.

Sticker is still there was thinking of leaving my hat on the wall. As far as gafttopsail pompano, gonna have to trust my guide who says it is a baby permit.

Several more bones today, another permit and hooked 3 tarpon. So close to a grand slam it hurts.

The barring on the side of the pompano is the giveaway.

Hope you're having fun!

Like Richard mentioned, the giveaway is the vertical bars. The pompano family is often difficult to discern between species, and many different species have the same common name. Yours appears to be the Trachinotus goodei which is common to the Caribbean. Trachinotus rhodopus, another species commonly called the gafftopsail pompano (and looks the same), is only found on the Pacfic side of the house.

Either way, sounds like you're having a blast, and I'm sure the permit will come soon.

Make sure to pay homage to the Tata Duende.  Walk backwards and pour a sip out for luck.
