Went hiking in Shenandoah this past weekend with my girlfriend, and brought the rod along.  Was planning on fishing mostly terrestrials, but ran into another angler who said he was having great luck on dry adams, so tied on a 14 parachute adams and never looked back.  The key to these small water trout is presentation and approach, so I don't think the fly selection matters that much anyway.  Caught a few on the adams, but the biggest was holding low under a small falls (maybe 2 feet deep) and kept taking something under the water, so I tied on a zebra midge and he took it on the first pass.  Nothing beats the colors on these little guys.

Also came across this rattlesnake on the trail, so if you head out there be careful bushwacking.  I think its a Timber Rattler, but looking forward to a correction from Gene.

Whoa!  Nice find!  --and no correction.  I have never, ever found a Timber Rattler out in the field.  Just the little pygmy in one isolated area in Missouri.  That's a heck of a snake find!  You need to be closer for a picture ;).  

Nice fish too -- I've also come the conclusion that pattern isn't important.  I was at the Rapidan 2 weeks ago and used nothing but bright yellow, flashy, ugly foam beetles and caught several.

Brookies in my opinion are so hungry they eat anything.  as long as you dont spook them first.  its taken me many years to finally catch the 9-11 inch brookies consistently.  they are very easy to spook with bad casts, large leaders and just being clumsy in the water.

It was funny, my girlfriend was walking just ahead of me, and all of a sudden jumped off the trail and yelped.  There was a rather large garter snake, which I let strike my boot as I explained it wasn't dangerous.  Literally 20ft down the trail, she goes "oh there's another one", and I just about soiled myself when I saw that Timber.  He was really lethargic, and didn't really react until I moved him off the trail with a (long) stick.  I got a good tail rattle shake out of that...
