Live near Rock Creek in Kensington where Cedar crosses Beltway.  I have tried this area a few times in what looks like fishy locations for sunnies, bluegills etc and have had no luck.  Scouted the bank looking for turns in the creek, undercut trees, darker holes, fished foam lines, etc.  No spot burning (if there is such a thing for panfish) but anyone have a suggestion for 3wt fishing 5 mins from my house?

Thanks.

To me, it's always been unclear as to whether or not it's legal to fish there. The NPS site just specifies that it's not legal to fish Rock Creek upstream of the Porter Street bridge. Does that mean all the way up to Lake Bernard Frank?

Scott - my interpretation is that it's only not legal until the DC border. Once you're out of DC, it is no longer a national park, so I don't think the NPS would have jurisdiction at that point. Some Montgomery County webpages even make reference to the game fish that can be caught in the MD portions of Rock Creek.

Thanks for the clarification! I didn't realize that the NP stopped at the DC/MD border.

I am not interested in there, but am curious as to the NPS reason for that rule.

Probably the same reasoning that says we can't wade the Potomac...

I love this local stream because I can walk to it in 10 minutes from my apartment, but it can be real hard to find fish in there. I always end up on the C&O if I want something nearby that is pleasant.

I live on Bel Pre near Lakes Needwood and Frank and the County's Rock Creek Regional Park. You need to do a lot of walking and prospecting to find fish. If I'm looking for a fishing fix on short notice, I head for Widewater on the C&O at Anglers Inn. and fish from the towpath. I may take my kayak over there this weekend for the first time.
