Newbie to fishing on the Potomac (any good spot in northern MoCo/Frederick)

Hello all, 

I just stumbled upon the TPRF website which led me to this group. I have not fished in this area before, other than a couple of unsuccessful trip to Little Seneca lake. I don't own a boat/kayak so I am pretty much limited to fishing from the shore. Can anyone tell me what are some good fishing locations on the Potomac in the northern Montgomery county ? The two rods that I currently own are smallish (two piece and 5-6 ft range). Can it be done with these rods ?
