Anyone have an idea of what the water is like way downriver, say Point Lookout area? I've been itching to get down there and fish the creeks and Point Lookout marsh, but this rain has me thinking it'd be a wasted trip.

The bay is dirty right now but still very fishable. If you can, look for a cleaner tide (incoming) or some NW wind to clean it up a bit. And if not, fish something loud or on top in skinnier water.

I know someone who fished that area a few weeks ago and said it fished very well.

October-
Not sure if you will be fishing from a boat, but if you are, water conditions near Point Lookout shouldn't be too bad. Water temperatures are pretty warm (81F) so if you are looking for rockfish, I suggest you look deeper for cooler, well oxygenated water with structure. Recent satellite pics and monitoring data don't show muddy water in the main river, however the heavy rains we have had in the last few days may muddy up the nearshore waters near the smaller creeks. Check out Eyes on the Bay's Click Before You Cast for recent Point Lookout conditions including temperature and oxygen profiles.

This is from Wednesday's MD DNR fishing report:
"Focal points are the rock piles above Point Lookout and to a lesser degree Buoys 70 and 72. In the lower Potomac, the steep channel edges parallel to St. Georges Island and Tall Timbers are providing good success. There are a lot of smaller striped bass in the mix, but larger fish are also being caught."

Good luck!

My brother and I fished inlets and the Bay at various tides last week down by the Honga river.  Total skungage.  The only thing our flies hooked was sea salad.  It was not worth the sunburn.  I'm going to go shoot skeet this weekend and not even think about fishing.

Schoolies were apprehended. Small bait balls present, water off color but not chocolate milk, most action subsurface with a few on top.

Good intel, Charlie, per usual.
