Hey Everyone,

This week on Tuesday May 19th at 7 PM EST  Ill be teaching the Bugger Bomb on Google Meets: Just click the link below around 6:50 PM ish on Tuesday and ask to join!

This is a link to a photo of the Bugger Bomb: https://www.instagram.com/p/CAMZ6G9DoNO/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

This fly is an excellent late spring/ early summer slider for  both large and small mouth bass that are surface oriented. Bass often chase schools of bait fish to the surface to disorient them. during these occurrences, Bass can be fooled easily with a slider or crease fly resembling a injured bait fish. Look for diving  birds feeding, or swirls and and splashes on the surface. Bait fish that are swimming or breaching the surface erratically, are typically being chased; send a Bugger Bomb there way and get ready!

The Bugger Bomb is a great introduction fly for learning the basics of spinning and trimming deer hair.

As you all know, Its important that we do our best to support our local business during these unprecedented times. Our partners over at District Angling , Orvis ,and Mossy Creek help support our club, lets do our best to return the favor!

Materials:

Hook: Tiemco TMC 8089 Any size, but ill be using a #2
Tail: Strung Marabou blood quills 2 -4 colors (Think Bait fish)
Body/Head : Bass Bug Deer spinning hair 2-4 colors (Think Bait fish)
Noes: Schlappen or extra long rooster hackle.
Eyes: Fish skull living eyes or similar. For a # 2 i use 4 or 5 mm on a size 2

Cheers,

Although it is not absolutely necessary, I recommend having a good supply of Gillette Wilkinson Sword double edge razor blades when trimming most deer hair bugs. That model is preferred by tiers world wide , and Is so thin that you can easily bend it into a convex shape that is perfect for most flies. Its a single use per side type of product, so grab a bunch. They are very cheap. I got 100 recently for 10 bucks.

As it relates to the Bugger Bomb, it can be done with scissors, but the Razor is better. However the one pictured in the link above was done with scissors.

Also, for gluing eyes onto deer hair I prefer gel type glues. Standard head cements and super glues seems to seep into the hair and not collect on the surface. Zap Gel is very good and can be found at all our local fly shops. I just got a bottle from District Angling. There are other good products out there, but that seems to work best for me.

Hey everyone,

TPFR Treasurer and resident trout nut ,Misha Gill , will be presenting the Sexy Hares Ear Nymph on Tuesday June 2nd at 7 pm via Google Meets.

Use the following link to join:  meet.google.com/uoi-vhtk-kst

Below is Misha's write up on the pattern:

"You've heard of attractor patterns, and maybe even the sexy hare's ear, but this pattern walks the street and goes the extra mile. She's got gold hoop earrings, pink lipstick, black lingerie, and some tasty transparency. This fly attracts like no other, goes down fast, and rides perfectly. Fish find her irresistible. Let me hasten to add, #Ibelievewomen and #sorryfortheextendedanalogy. Join Misha Gill for a tie-along and discussion of the "hare's ear platform.""

Materials:

Hook: Orvis jig hook size in 10-16 (tying a 12)
Bead: gold slotted tungsten, 7/64" 2.8 mm or 1/8"
Body: Hare's ear Plus Dubbin Tan
Rib: gold Mylar tinsel
Collar: pink ice dub
Tail/legs: black Krystal Flash

Cheers,
