You all might remember a post from last year where I caught a grass carp out of my parents' backyard pond. Well, I visited over the long weekend and managed another even bigger one. This one measured out at 37 inches. I'd estimate 30 lbs, maybe a few more. Online weight estimators have put it anywhere from 29 - 45 lbs, so I think I'm pretty dead on in my "feel-in-the-hand" estimate. I managed to get this one on a small nymph slow stripped right in front of the nose of a cruising fish. I wasn't sure at first if I foul hooked it or if it ate, but once I got it in the net, it had a textbook corner of the mouth hooking. I had two or three more that I had eat, but couldn't get good connection on the hook set.

Most of you know I have a weird obsession with carp by now. For those interested, I started a blog a few months ago about my hunt for carp in general. Check it out at districtcarp.blogspot.com. I'm focusing it only on my carp fishing in DC, but I'm adding a post or two about when I go after them elsewhere, too.

That's a great fish Jeff -- I'd love to catch one.

Nice fish, Jeff. At first I thought the file name for the pic was your name. ;-) I was out walking my daughter's dogs on the towpath on Sunday and just upstream of Sycamore Island Club there must have been 8, 10, 12 good sized carp on other side from the towpath hovering in the water column. Sort of looked like they were waiting for mulberries to drop, though couldn't make any out.
