I love those emails from Maryland DNR - I've gotten a stocking notice from them before with a picture of a kid holding trout on a chain stringer with the title "Go get em!"

Haha in Maine they don't even tell you when or if something is stocked, they just tell you vaguely where they will put fish in either fall or spring.

I saw it too!  Even though trout hold in spots within about 100 steps from my front door, I won't be there at all this weekend.  Enjoy folks!

Woolly buggers (I like olive with crystal chenille)
eggs
worms

The biggest "hole" on Accotink is located right behind the baseball field (literally behind home plate) at "Americana Park" in google maps.  There's a rope swing and it's fairly deep -- you can't miss it.  The last brown I caught out of there barfed up a huge amount of red worms on Beth's waders -- it was hilarious.

Upstream under the beltway holds trout, and various spots all the way down to Wakefield park do as well.

There -- busted!  Of course, some days you'll  catch trout all day long and others they don't seem to want to bite.

Hi guys.
Do you need waiders to fish it? Also as you park by the by the field do you usually finish it up the river or down the river?
Thanks

Cool!  I took my son to the Accotink Creek yesterday.  No sign of any fish at all or fishermen.  We were about a mile from Americana Park!  I will probably go scope it out tonight!

Beth got one out of there over the weekend, and I got one after work yesterday (and saw a few more), but they seem to be holding in one particular stretch of water and haven't spread out too much on the downstream end where I usually see a lot of them.  I posted this back in April, but they do apparently hold over in the winter because I caught them early this spring unexpectedly, before they had done the spring stocking.  That was kind of fun.

Rain/floods change the structure of the stream so much from year-to-year that it keeps things interesting.  I think your best bet is to hike around until you either spot 'em, or get bit.

Jeff -- waders aren't mandatory, but they'll let you access more areas and cross the stream more easily.

Thanks for the tips Gene.
Went there today with my tenkara. Found one pool and landed 2 maybe 3 dozen fish out of it. Wooly bugger was the key, size and color did not really matter, did not try any other flies to be honest with you. Will try to take my son there on Saturday. He should have a lot of fun.
Waders where very useful by the way.
