CALLING ALL TIERS (or TYERS if you wish)!!!

I was recently commissioned by Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing to pick up on the annual fly tying marathon which has been organized and run in the past by Urban Angler superstar Wray Sinclair.  Since there was no marathon last year, and with Wray now off to school, PHWFF is eager to get another one up and running.  Of course, I said yes, and am grateful for the opportunity!

To that end, the 2014 National Capital Fly Tying Marathon to benefit Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing will take place on SATURDAY, MARCH 22 FROM 10AM-4PM at Whitlow's on Wilson!
Consider it a "BEER TIE" with a purpose!  We'll be looking for all available tiers to give up a Saturday afternoon, spend 6 hours at the vise, and donate everything that comes out to PHWFF for use in their programs across the country.

I've already hit up Orvis for some sponsorship, and as a result we'll be holding a pretty sweet raffle with all proceeds going to PHWFF to use however they see fit.

Keep and eye out for updates and announcements as this event approaches and takes shape, but in the meantime, PLEASE SAVE THE DATE!  Looking forward to a great day, with some great people, for a great cause.  Oh, and some GREAT BEER too!

See you there!

Hey Dan,

Sounds like fun.  As i've never been to one of there in the past, I'm curious as to how this is organized in the past.  Do you and PHWFF supply a list of requested or suggested flies that they would like?

I'll be passing along specific requests prior to the tie, but simply put, everyone has something they can contribute.  Streamers, Beetles, Dries, Nymphs, Poppers, Shad Flies, everything is fair game.  Even those brand new to tying can crank out a ton of San Juan Worms and Green Weenies.  Also, PHW staff will be on hand at the marathon to help guide us on what is needed most.  We'll definitely organize and pass along a list of needs in advance to help with planning though.  See you there!

Red, white, and blue flies are always fun and appreciated.
