Last evening I needed a Fishin' Fix. It was a beautiful evening that needed to be enjoyed outside.

So I grabbed my 6wt, reel and sling pack and headed to the closest spot... Cook Lake. More like a large pond. There's carp, sunfish and catfish in Cook Lake and trout when they stock it in the spring. 15 minutes later I pulled in to the parking lot, opened the trunk, rigged up the rod, donned my fishin' hat and set off to the little peninsula I like to fish from (lots of backcast room).

There was a fellow there, cigar clinched between his teeth, rod in hand and bobber lazily drifting on the water.

"Hey, having any luck?"

"Nope," he replied. "It's really more about the cigar anyway."

I don't usually smoke cigars but i got the sentiment. I smiled and moved on. I did some "fishin' " and as I got dark I parked the fly and mossied (love that word) over to the fellow. We exchanged names and chatted a while as he made another cast.

When I left he still had that cigar firmly planted, unlit.

God, I love moments like that!

Fishing is really the most exquisite way of doing nothing ever discovered.

We had a "why fish?" discussion going a year or so ago now.

My take is that humans are natural predators, and that deceiving wild animals jibes with something in our brain, even in modern times with vegan poetry and people dropping i-phones in the toilet.

After some 3 years experience of having to speak with occasional strangers while fishing, I've decided that I don't like speaking with occasional strangers while fishing.

Sometimes instead of deceiving wild fish I deceive myself into thinking that I'm a fisherman.
And then sometimes I just go out and pester the occasional stranger and bum a cigar!

Hope to see you soon,
Bryan

That's a lot deception. Am I to believe your story?

Absolutely. Have I ever lied to you before?

I dunno -- as far as I can tell on this forum, you're an orb-head stickman with a blue background!

This kind of reminds of of the knights and knaves logic puzzle, popularized by David Bowie --

It's a Washington fish story.

I speak the truth. Just ask my red twin.  Besides a Washington lie would involve the carp I caught with my shoelaces and bubblegum.

Double Bubble works particularly well.

Also, for gar forget the rope fly, use the double bubble. Don't forget the pigeon tail otherwise it's not technically a fly.
