After several unsuccessful  tries, finally connected with some fish at Gravelly point.  Per what seems to be usual, caught fish on an outgoing tide around dusk.   Three stripers, 10-15 inches in a half hour.  All caught on a blue-green-gold metallic popper with trailing white buck tail hair.   A blurry (was dark) picture of the largest is attached.  It looked to be over 15 inches and fat.

I have noticed that the stripers that I have caught so far this year seem fatter than years past.  I am hoping that it is a good sign!  They fight so strong.  They have to be one of my favorite fish on the fly!

I made it out on the potomac for a few hours Monday as well. Fish were busting bait on the surface when I showed up and it proved to be a good afternoon.  I took some video with my gopro using a head mount.

Thanks.

That's a good area there under the bridge.  I haven't fished it in years but I use to do well catching chain pickerel there.  Only place in the river I've ever caught them.

I will be in the area for a few days in early Nov, thought I would try to do some metro fly fishing while there, as its quite different from my Idaho home.  I'm not real familiar with the area, any suggestions for where in Gravelly Point I could try?

You want to fish the outflow.

Right near where Gravelly Point connects to Roaches Run (where it goes under the GW Parkway. Ideally, you want to fish it on an outgoing tide, when the water is flowing from Roaches Run out through Gravelly and into the Potomac. If you're there on an incoming tide, you might have better luck fishing the Roaches Run side. Also, try to fish in low light conditions - morning and evening, or on an overcast day.

Good luck and post a report (with photos!) to let us know how you made out!

Fished the outgoing tide tonight after the sun went down. My buddy and I waded the area around the outflow. Didn't hook into any striper, but I did hook into a nice ~20in walleye. Not what I expected to find. Didn't have the camera handy unfortunately.

Fished last night.  It was pretty slow.  Got 2 fish.  One pretty good size the other small.

Hit gravelly last night on the outgoing tide.  Not a thing.  It was chilly and my waders were leaking.

Looking at the weather forcast, im wondering if it could be done for the year.
