There are a whole mess of snakehead in the Little Patuxent at Savage Mill right now. I watched a spin fisherman pull four out yesterday while I pulled out none. I finally caught my first one today on the fly. It was 26" and between 5 and 6 pounds, which as I understand is large for this area. It ate a #1/0 TNT baitfish tied in tan and gold. They didn't care about my crease fly or sex dungeon aside from one briefly chasing the dungeon. I caught it on a 6wt with a 6' 20lb fluoro leader. This spot was loaded with smallmouth a couple weeks ago, but they're all gone now. The river is still high and muddy, and I imagine the brief storm we had earlier made it worse. Nonetheless they are actively feeding. This one was probably 35' away from where I was standing whereas the other ones I cast to were within 15'. They really clamp down hard on the flies, but the take was similar to a trout taking a nymph. I thought I was snagged on a log rather than hooked into a fish.
