As previously mentioned, Melody and I are presently in the Outer Banks celebrating 12 friggin' awesome years of marriage.

I've really only put in about an hour or so a day in the surf and have had nary a bump.  BUT, I did bring down a 3-weight this year since there are a few little ponds with some Bluegills and Bass, and our kiddos have been putting it to good use!

Paulie can cast independently but still needs a little help with the hook set.  VA on the other hand can do everything now but tie the fly on and get the hook out.  I can't even describe the joy I have watching her cast, twitch the fly just right, set the hook, and land the fish all by herself, and she can't get enough.  Just beautiful!

John is still in the observation phase at this point but will definitely be joining the fun soon.  Enjoy a few shots from today!

I anticipated a story about leaving your 9-weight at home and mending a 7'6" 3-weight over the waves, etc.  Is that a click-n-pawl?  If so, I'd set the little square on "low" and add to the excitement ;).

Good post Dan -- I can understand your joy.

Dan,

I have to say i am a little bit jealous. I can't wait until my daughter is old enough for me to take her out. Congrats on 12 years my friend.

Like Gene, I expected a story of how something happened to your 9wt and you MacGyvered a solution with your 3.  The real story is better, I think.  Congrats on your 12 friggin' awesome years and three friggin' awesome kiddos.  Both are hard work and reflect well on you and Melody.  I love that forward cast action shot from VA!

Cheers,

Thats the way to do it.  Now the next trick is either the Ketchum release or getting her her own set of hemostats.  Once they start unhooking them on their own, you can actually do some fishing yourself :-)
Enjoy it while they still like fishing.
