The eastern shore mill ponds hold some very nice pickerel too. The ponds around Salisbury hold some of the bigger fish. But don’t discount the creeks off the Patapsco. image0.jpeg

Terrific article! I've had success with the picks on the Eastern Shore, but I've been meaning to get over to the Severn and the Magothy to do some exploring. A quick search of Google Maps shows some pretty big water. If a guy were to put in a kayak with limited range, could someone suggest a potential launching spot? Not asking for your rock, just a general area where one might reasonably find some fish within a mile or two of the launch. Would love to meet up with some other folks if they were interested in exploring.

Found this thread as I will be in Salisbury this weekend for a soccer tournament. Curious whether its feasible to chase pickerel on the fly this time of year in the ponds around there and whether any in particular may be a better bet. Any guidance is appreciated.

Yes you can catch pickerel year round in the mill ponds. Plenty of fly fishes chasing them on Smithville.

I’m going to be down there in June for a baseball tourney for a couple of days…is Smithville a lake or pond? Can you fish for them from the shore or do you need a watercraft?  Terminal tackle and flies?

Thx,

Pete

Shoreline fishing is somewhat limited. A small boat or kayak is best. There is a boat ramp and small dock. I use a six or eight weight with 15-20lb leader because of the toothy fish. Basically bass fish will get you a pickerel on the lake.
