It depends, if you park over on Gravelly point and run across the parkway in full waders, you only need a VA license.  Please take a full video of your run across (with sound) and post it to the forum for educational purposes ;).

BTW -- According to webster's the term "sanctuary" means "a place of refuge or safety".  So if you're fishing over there, you've created a somewhat ironic situation.

A Virginia license is required according to my federal permit for the parkways

I was stopped at Columbia Island Marina a few years back and the National Park Police asked me for me my DC license. I was pretty sure that he should have been asking for my VA license.

Best regards,

I have never fished on the roaches run side but I have only carried a DC permit when fishing the gravelly point side.

I believe that would be Virginia.

It's actually DC. If you look on the map below, the dashed line cuts into that little cove on the east side of GW Parkway.

If you're fishing around that area anyway, you should just get the DC license to be sure. It's $13.

The dotted line does not include Roaches Run which is in Virginia.

Okay, at least I know its totally confusing!  I have a friend in town and we fished for shad Friday (75+ for the 2 of us), and I was trying to maximize his DC license for Sunday.  I think we'll just do a Virginia license and go someplace without any dotted lines....

(I will reserve the right for the full wader dash on video for another day).  Gotta time the traffic flow.

Just seeing this but to clarify --

Roaches Run requires a Virginia license. At least for the time being until sea levels rise high enough to swamp it.

The Pentagon Lagoon and boundary channel are DC.
